My pool water is cloudy and smelly, what to do?

WHAT DEFINES A CLOUDY WATER?
  • The water has changed appearance

Impurities have accumulated in the water

  • The water has an unpleasant odor

Microorganisms have developed in the pool

If your problem does not correspond to these symptoms, it is possible that your pool is experiencing a similar problem.

Measures to combat turbid water effectively

  1. 1

    Brush and clean

the walls of the pool and the skimmer basket to remove organic matter in suspension. > Bottom brushes, Corner brush

  2. 2

    Wash and descale the filter

with Decalcit Filter. Then restart the filtration system until the water is clear and transparent. > Decalcit Filter

  3. 3

Adjust the pH of the water

with pH-Minus or pH-Plus. Adjust the pH to between 7.0 and 7.4 if you are treating with chlorine. For bromine treatments, adjust the pH to between 7.4 and 7.6. With a balanced pH, treatment products are more effective. > pH Minus, pH Plus, Quicktest, Pooltester Electronic, Pooltester pH/Cl

  4. 4

    Perform a shock treatment

to neutralize all impurities and microorganisms present in the water.

  5. 5

    Add a flocculant

Place one Superflock Plus flocculant cartridge in the skimmer basket every 7 to 15 days for pools equipped with a sand or glass filter (if you have a cartridge filter, use Superklar). > Superflock Plus, Superklar

  6. 6

    Filter 24/7

until the pool water is crystal clear again. Then resume your normal daily filtration routine. If necessary, replace the filter material (sand, Eco Filterglass Plus, or AFM). > Eco Filterglass Plus, AFM

FAQ

  • There are many causes of cloudy water. Cloudy or milky water may be due to a high level of organic matter in your pond. Regular cleaning of your pond is necessary (walls, water line, bottom of the pond, etc.). A lack of disinfectant can also be the cause: micro-organisms develop in the water. Finally, cloudy water can be linked to a filtration problem (defective filtration system or insufficient filtration time). Everything you need to know about filtration and the benefits of filters.

  • To effectively combat cloudy water and restore clear water, follow the steps in the protocol. Clean your pool, wash and disinfect your filter, adjust the pH, perform a shock treatment, flocculate, and filter.

  • You cannot swim in a pool if the water is cloudy. Apart from being unsightly, the impurities and microorganisms that have accumulated in the water are harmful to swimmers. To restore clear, clean, and healthy water, follow the appropriate treatment steps.

  • Filtration accounts for 80% of your pool's water treatment. If your filtration system is faulty, if you don't maintain it properly, or if the daily filtration time is insufficient, this will cause water problems. Note that the daily filtration time in hours must be at least equal to the water temperature divided by 2.

  • Flocculation/clarification ensures crystal clear water for your pool. Just like water balance, disinfection, and algae control, it is an important part of pool water treatment. Cloudy water is a phenomenon that affects all pools at one time or another (like green algae, cloudy water is a very common problem). This is caused by particles suspended in the water. Most filtration systems are unable to filter out fine particles. As a result, the water becomes cloudy. To avoid this kind of problem, filtration makes the suspended particles filterable. The flocculant makes them large enough for the filter to retain them. A simple backwash then removes them and restores clear water.

  • If your water remains cloudy despite proper treatment and sufficient filtration time, consider checking your filter media. Regular maintenance of the filtration system is necessary to avoid water problems. Use an anti-scale product to descale your sand filter with Decalcit Filtre. If your filter material is contaminated with bacteria or microorganisms, clean it with Filterclean Tab. For a cartridge filter, remove the cartridge and soak it in a solution of Decalcit Filtre to descale it. If necessary, consider replacing the cartridge.
